GRANDMA'S HOUSE
Grandma's House was constructed adjacent to the family’s existing home from the 1930s. The small house replaces an annex of the main house. The clients wanted to preserve a large apple orchard at the site and therefore placed the annex on the least desirable spot.
The new building extends from the main house’ perimeter and opens towards spacious outdoor areas to the east and to the southwest. There are generous windows at the gable façade, while the façade towards the property line has windows in small niches as a friendly gesture to the neighbors.The basement consists of a garage and accessible living space on the ground floor. It was important for the family to have easy access from the main house to Grandma’s entrance door.
Due to fire regulations, the house was built with concrete slabs, a steel roof and prefabricated insulated moulds, cast with concrete. The façade material is white plaster to fit the main house' bright façade. The entrance hall, terrace and balcony features cedar trellises that serves as railings, sunscreen and a climbing wall for Grandma’s plants.
